Who was Dwynwen?
St Dwynwen (Santes Dwynwen) was a fourth-century Welsh princess who was rather unlucky in love.
She became a nun and lived on Llanddwyn Island off the west coast of Anglesey. She prayed for true lovers to have better luck than she did. Remains of Dwynwen’s church can still be seen today.
The Welsh love spoon
The Welsh love spoon is a well known romantic gift. The tradition goes back hundreds of years where young men would carve intricate wooden spoons to present to their betrothed. Certain symbols have specific meanings - a horseshoe for luck, bells for marriage, hearts for love, a lock for security and so on. Our collection of lovespoon gifts include contemporary twists on the traditional, from cards and prints to chocolate and jewellery.
